The Society of Benevolence has written and received countless numbers of letter throughout the years. Het Drents Archief has, together with participants of VeleHanden, digitalised the incoming correspondence of the years 1818-1847. One can find them by searching for the name of the sender or names that appear in these letters. The incoming mail consist both of distinguished letters from the notability that supported the colonies and of the poor that desired a place in one of the colonies. Besides this, there are letters from staff members who worked in the colonies, from the Subcommittees of the major Dutch cities, and from traders that wanted to do business with the Society of Benevolence. Sometimes letters contained namesheets, which are a valuable source of information about the inhabitants of the different colonies. Het Drents Archief also keeps the letters that were sent by the Society of Benevolence. The physical state of these letters does not permit digitalisation, however these letters can be consulted in Het Drents Archief.
